VITAL: IP double-check

Postby Guest » Sun Dec 18, 2005 11:16 pm

Some websites deliberately try to mislead automated ip check sites. One example is:
www.urgentclick.com/whats_my_ip_address.php

(DirectUpdate will pick the obfuscating IP address.)

The problem is that it is unpredictable when a website will change its website code, whether deliberately or not, and cause DirectUpdate to pick the wrong ip address. The solution is to force DirectUpdate, whenever an IP change is detected and BEFORE it updates the IP, to confirm that the SAME new ip address is also detected by ANOTHER website. (The user could select how many new websites have to confirm the change, but really just having ONE other website confirm is enough!)

(I've requested this before, but didn't find my old post here.)
