Hi,

If the registration page is grayed, it means that the engine is not running (at least that the admin part is not connected to the engine).
What I recommend:
- uninstall 3.6
- reinstall 4.0.4
- enter your reg info in 4.0.4

Hope it helps
Regards
William

Same problem

Postby Spaf Thmun » Thu Apr 14, 2005 7:41 pm

I'm seeing the same thing.

The admin app (of v4.0.4) tells me that my free trial is expired, but I registered v3.6 in 2002, and have been using that number on all versions since, up to and including 4.0. I can't enter the registration info again, and when I try to get the admin app to connect to the engine, the whole thing hangs.

The only way to get it unstuck is to restart the DU service. When I do that, I get the message box telling me I have 0 days left on the free trial, and another labeled DirectUpdate engine error, telling me, "Connection was reset by destination host".

I've tried connecting to the engine at 127.0.0.1, localhost, the actual IP number of this box, and the machine's host name. All attempts have the same result.

I'd like to keep using DirectUpdate, but this is impossible. Any suggestions?

Weird behaviour...

Did you try to uninstall the 4.0 ?
Then, reinsrall it and enter your reg info manually ?

Brutal, I ended up having to do it through the other pay system. When I did that then I got another serial that worked. The only problem is I also got charged twice! What am I to do?

Your Paypal serial # that I got doesn't work.

Hi Travis,

I remember now your serial num?ber issue.
It was one of the first SN generated by my backend, and it pointed out a small bug (fixed now, of course).

I sent you an email with the fixed SN a few days/weeks ago !
Apparently you never received it :(

Your paypal SN you received ends with "-01RFYL".
The right SN should end with "-101RFYL" (the first "1" was missing").
Please, use this one (the fixed paypal SN).
I will refund the 2nd payment you placed at eSellerate...

Sorry for the troubles
Regards
William

Yes, I just tried that. When the admin module ran, I saw a MessageBox labeled "DirectUpdate engine error", with the following contents:

Connection to engine failed - Connection was actively refused by remote host (0x8184001f)
Reasons could be:

- DirectUpdate engine is not running on 127.0.0.1
Go to this machine and make sure the engine is running.

- TCP traffic is blocked on port 40019.
If you are running a firewall or NAT, make sure TCP traffic is allowed on this port.

The engine and admin module are running on the same box, so the NAT firewall is not an issue. The box has two IP addresses. If I substitute either of them for 127.0.0.1 (or localhost, or the box's hostname), I get the same result.

The box is running XP/SP1 and has no software firewall (there's a hardware one between it and the Net).

Now what?

Using the admin module "engine" page or the WinXP "ServiceManager", try to restart the service.

Once restarted, it should be Ok to connect...

Tried that

And that's when things get interesting. The admin module hangs; it won't respond to any mouse clicks, won't even update its window. When I click the close button, Windows tells me the application is not responding, and offers to kill it anyway.

I agree, the window disappears, and within a few seconds the DU engine is sucking up every cycle it can. The Service Manager won't even open, I have to use the Task Manager to kill the DU engine.

This is a problem. Any ideas?

Hello,

This look like the most important bug since the beginning of v4 !!!
Could you:
- Stop the engine
- Launch regedit to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Fraggers.net\DirectUpdate\Engine
- Export the whole branch to a reg file
- Send this file to me

So, I could try to reproduce the crash...
Thx
William

Done. I previously sent it to the address on your email button: phpbb@fraggers.net. If that's not you, perhaps you could update the button.

Thanks again.

Issues with registration

Postby jonellucas » Thu Apr 21, 2005 10:38 pm

I am still unable to register the software. I am very willing to go back to the old version but I am also unable to do that. When I attempt to start the admin module I receive the same message as always. In other words, I receive the same messages that others have reported under this topic e.g. "connection was reset by host..0 days, etc...Is thier a way to directly go into the registry and enter the values? I am unable to get it to register through the proceses you have outlined in both email and this forum.

Apparently, it could be a build problem in the 4.0.4.
Please, contact me by email, and I'll send you a pre-4.0.5.

Thx
William
