[Solved]DU identifies IP, but DNS error on hosts

Postby XSnPX » Sat Dec 05, 2015 10:28 am

Hi there,

I have just downloaded the trial version in order to see if it performs better than dyndns updater as it crashes my PC all the time.

I have two Dyn hosts - one to remote connect and another for a server.

The problem I am seeing is that one or both gives me DNS error if left to act automatically and then says it will retry in 30 minutes.

If I force update once or a couple of times they connect.

My questions are:
Is there a way to reduce the 30 mins retry?
I am assuming my setting are set correctly if force update works on both, or am i missing something?

Any help for this would be appreciated.

many thx in advance.

Ben

Re: DU identifies IP, but DNS error on hosts

Hello,

Let's see what causes the "Error 0x8183006c:DNS error encountered by the server" error.
The raw data returned by the server is stored locally in the "Dump" folder.
Each request overwrite the previous one, so make sure to repro the error, then send me the content (zipped preferably) of the "Dump" folder.
You can send to email address available here http://www.directupdate.net/index.php/support

Thx!

Hi there,

Happy New Year and thank you for the reply..

I am unable to recreate the error at the moment to send you a zipped Dump folder.

In the meantime, is there anyway to reduce the "next-Retry" from 30mins to a lot less?

Thank you

BP

Yes, there is a way, but it is NOT recommended, as you can get your account (temporarily) banned/suspended by dyn.com
So, use it at your own risks!!!

In DirectUpdate install folder, locate the "dns" subfolder and open the file "Dyndns.org.dynamic.dud" with any text editor (like notepad)
Look for the line "Ret9=0x8183006C,2, 1800,dnserr"
1800 is the number of seconds before retrying when such an error (dnserr/0x8183006C) occurs.
Feel free to modify this value, save the file and restart the engine (so the file is reloaded).

Thank you for the above fix.

I was able to recreate the error today and I have sent you an email with the zipped dump and error log.

Thank you in advance.

For the record, the dyndns server randomly returns "dnserr" when 2 update are sent simultaneously.
THe "dnserr" issue has been reported to dyn.com support.

As a workaround, updating the 2 domains (comma separated) in the same account/request solved the problem.

In order to help anyone with the same error where you may have more than 1 DynDNS server where one updates and the others do not.

You can try and combine all your addresses under one account and in the Domain/host area add all your addies in there separated by a comma and no spaces:
for e.g
addione.dyndns.com,additwo.dyndns.com

Disable your other DNS accounts and only use one with your multiple domain/hosts - see if this helps you :)
