primary dns

Postby telesha » Fri Aug 19, 2011 7:37 am

How to find and identify the primary and secondary DNS on my windows vista system? I've typed in on the command prompt ipconfig/all and got all the information displayed but I cannot see the primary and/or secondary DNS servers. PLEASE, make the instructions on how to find on a for dummies basis, thanks in advance.

On your ipconfig /all check for the lines:
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : x.y.z.t

in my example, x.y.z.t is the primary dns and a.b.c.d is the secondary.

If your PC is behind a NAT modem/router, then the IPConfig will probably return your router IP as dns server.
To check your "real" dns servers, you'll have to check your router status page.

Hope it helps
