Very slow computer fails but really doesn't?

Postby Chris.Fox@alicit.com » Wed Feb 10, 2016 5:53 pm

Gentlemen - using DirectUpdate on a horribly slow PC and a slow network connection (that I am stuck with at this site) on a dynamic IP address I get these emails:

An account update failed.
Account name: Security Air Park Account
Current IP address: 162.198.49.76
New IP address (detected): 162.198.54.128
Error: Operation timed out. - 0x81840002
-----------------------------------------------
Message generated: 2/10/2016 8:26:54 AM by DirectUpdate (v 4.7.6 build 215 for x86) From machine SAP-1A4B1832823 For info, visit http://www.directupdate.net

What's interesting is that everything works great, despite these frequent error messages. The DDNS system (DynDNS) gets updated perfectly despite this error (I think, at least everything works!). Could it be that I need a "slow computer" option that extends the timeouts? What do you think?

Hi Chris,

The timeout error is most likely generated by the TCPIP stack (7sec timeout).
But DirectUpdate will retry the failed request every xx min (settings dependent) until it succeeds,

So, I guess you can safely ignore as you are aware the pc is very slow :)
Regards
William

That's kind of what I thought... :)
Thanks!
